Faintest of stirring
in fathomless depths
scarcely impressing
cluttered consciousness.
~~~
‘Til thirst’s imperious demand,
slowly, assertively, awakens –
ardently pouring forth
inexpressible longings
to drink in Holy Presence
to soak in Divine Essence
until completely satiated.
~~~
For desperately parched in
sun-scorched, water-less
thirst-inducing, howling
Sahara-like waste – human spirit,
like braying deer of psalmody,
urgently seeks relief
at River of life-giving water.

Very beautiful writing Alec .
I too, like Sue (and before I saw her comment) had the word ‘desperation’ that came to mind when I read your poem Alec – it came thru strongly!
very good ,cries of desperation!
the water of life is there if you wish to drink of it ….well done alec….:)
I love this Alec, especially ‘braying deer of psalmody’, a real lyrical touch to it.
so deeply expressive, it motions the heart to thirst for God as it is read,
thank you for this one,
Linda
A river filled with love, with life and you never feel thirsty again. Love the poem and the pic you chose.
